Tarbert ATM fully operational, restoring vital access to cash in the Outer Hebrides
Tarbert, Isle of Harris, 02.01. 26 – NCR Atleos, the largest operator of the UK’s self-service banking and ATM estates, has today confirmed that the ATM in Tarbert is now back in full operation, following the completion of refurbishment works to its secure housing.
The machine has been tested, re-cashed and returned to service, restoring 24/7 access to cash for residents, local businesses and visitors. In remote island communities such as those across the Outer Hebrides, reliable access to cash is an essential part of daily life, particularly for small businesses and the local visitor economy.
For many people in Harris, alternative cash points are several miles away and not always reachable without private transport, making the reliability of a local ATM especially important.
Rather than a temporary repair, the housing has been fully refurbished to ensure the ATM can operate reliably in a challenging coastal environment.
Recent NCR Atleos data shows that access to cash is improving where machines are actively maintained, with 47% of people using protected ATM sites saying their access to cash has improved over the past year (on-screen questionnaire data from 2025). NCR Atleos, the world’s largest self-service banking and ATM estates operator committed to maintaining the ATM and funded the repair work, including the specialist engineering and logistics required to support infrastructure in island locations.
